We can't change the past but we can re-examine the influence it has had on us. We can't change other people, but we can grow and change ourselves. Counselling is an opportunity to think about the life we want and to work on making it happen.
About me and my practice
I think that in each life, probably more than once, this quote from Anais Nin is true: And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. We outgrow parts of ourselves, and find ourselves in a painful crisis. This is often the point at which someone reaches out for some counselling. As Karen Horney wrote, "the search for ourselves is the most agonizing, isn't it? And yet the most stimulating - and one simply cannot escape it". Everyone can benefit from taking a step back and thinking things through, in a safe space with someone sharing in the search for understanding. This is what I offer.
I trained in Relational-Centred counselling, and also draw on my knowledge of other modalites including humanistic, psychodynamic, existential, transactional analysis and person-centred. I very much enjoy working with both individuals and couples.
I work from my home office, or on Zoom.
